Waiting for the End
Since the end of midterms, I've felt totally burned out. I can't stay awake long enough to do any of the readings, and I'm falling behind in class. Not good. I told myself I'd work hard during Thanksgiving weekend, but that has not been the case. Right now, I've got two big projects due, one for marketing and one for statistics. I don't dislike projects per se, but they really, really suck when they are going on concurrently AND I'm totally confused in class AND I'm suffering from some form of narcolepsy.

On a happier note, I've brought joy and laughter to many of my coremates. No, that's not quite right. What I should say is that my coremates have gotten much joy and laughter at my expense. How, you ask? Well, let's see...

Incident #1: At the C4C Halloween party, I showed up as a naughty Catholic schoolgirl. Ever since, my classmates have been joking about it. So this one time in marketing class, we were watching a show on media, marketing, and teenagers. Britney Spears showed up on the screen in her "Baby One More Time" outfit, which may I say, LOOSELY, LOOSELY resembles my Halloween costume, and then one of my teammates, someone that I thought I could TRUST, decides say my name in a "Hey, it's her!" tone for the entire class to hear. The entire class burst into laughter. So mortifying. I just buried my face in my hands and thanked God that the lights were turned down so no one could see my beet-red face.

Incident #2: We have a secret Santa thing going on in our core, so they were passing around a signup sheet in class, where you wrote down your name and any suggestions for gifts you'd like. I put my name on the signup sheet and left the suggestion area blank. Some people who call themselves my friends decided that it would be oh-so-funny if unbeknownst to me, they wrote "A good, hard man" as something I would like for Christmas. All these people in class were laughing and making odd comments, and I didn't know why. I am so mistreated. Where is the love?

Argh, I can't wait for this term to be over.

Have Some Self-Respect
Yesterday, USC kicked UCLA's ass. The Bruins didn't even seem to be trying to win. Geez...even if you are going to lose, you should still pretend to try. So lame.

Fun with Stats
I had my statistics midterm today. The answers were posted almost immediately. I, of course, chose not to ruin my day by looking at them. The test was much harder than I thought it would be...nothing at all like the previous years' midterms. I totally got confused by one of the word problems (he's so tricky) and when I realized that I had gotten it wrong, I heard the TA say, "One minute left." Panic ensued, and I started furiously scribbling out some semblance of an answer. What a horrible experience. Time to make myself feel better with a little gastronomic therapy: ice cream.

Slogging Through
Midterms are upon us! I spent all of Saturday at school. I worked on understanding basic finance concepts from 9-12 with some teammates and then spent 1:30-6 with some other classmates on statistics. We were trying to come up with helpful mnemonic devices for remembering some of the concepts. Knowing our little study group, it should come as no surprise that we came up with the following statements to help us remember how to do hypothesis and chi-square tests:

"Those hos are independent women" (vs. those alternative ones who are dependent on their pimps).
"If I've got 5 cents in my pocket, I'll have to reject that ho, but if I've got more, I can take her."

Lovely, I know. We are so mature.

"Heh heh...did you say 'pee' value?"

At Long Last...
I receive my corporate finance textbook from ecampus.com. It's only been 3 weeks. I only have a midterm next week. Plenty o' time.

Adam Carolla came to our school and gave a little talk. He was pretty funny and shared his "story." I admire people who achieve their dreams, even if their dreams are wildly divergent from mine and even if I think very lowly of them in all other respects. For example, the Spice Girls. They stink, but they were a bunch of nobodies who wanted to be famous and now they are. Good for them, I say.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun
Which would explain why this term is going by so slowly. Each day seems forever, and each week seems interminable. And yes, we just finished week two. And yes, we have midterms one week from Monday. I hope recruiters know how hard this school works its students.

I have so much homework and finance is kicking my butt. My only consolation is that I kinda understand statistics, so I can take a little breather when it comes to studying in that class. Today, my finance homework almost made me cry, but luckily my classmates came to the rescue (props to Pablo, both Marks, YJ, Wes, and Celestin), so now I know what I am doing.

Last Saturday (October 25), I participated in College Fun Day for L.A.'s Best. Marshall students were paired up with neighborhood kids, and we spent the day doing fun stuff like going on a scavenger hunt, playing sports, and learning about assembly line production by making paper donuts.

This Friday was the Challenge for Charity Halloween Party, which took place at Cine-Space in Hollywood. Some of the costumes people came up with were amazing, and it was really fun dancing and hanging out with people from other cores. Some pretty interesting activities took place as the night progressed and as people became increasingly intoxicated, and I'll just leave it at that. I left the party with Dubya and Jenny around 1:30, and then we headed over to Mel's for a late night (or should it be early morning?) chow-down. Mmm, strawberry milkshake. Anyway, I got home around 3:30 AM, went to bed around 4 AM, got up around 11 AM, and headed off to school. I hung out with all the Asian nerds at Leavey Library (I kid you not...all you see is black-haired kids at the library on a Saturday) doing my statistics homework and then attended the football game, where we kicked Washington State's butt. At the game, I was amazed by the love people show the USC marching band. During half-time, marching band alumni came out and performed "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar. And people cheered. Why is it that these college marching band members get all these accolades, when being in marching band in high school got me nothing but jeers and snide remarks? *sigh*

I will have photos of L.A.'s Best, Halloween, and the football game up soon, especially since I find that there is no better way to procrastinate for midterms besides (1) cleaning my room and (2) updating web pages.
