It's Here.. Today is my last official day of class. I don't know how to feel. Excited? Elated? Wistful?
Gosh For your amusement: http://www3.state.id.us/oasis/HCR029.html
School I'm over it.
Ok, so I might be a little burned out. Or maybe I'm suffering residual malaise from my illness. Or it's just temporary despondency. Whatever it is, it's not helping me at all with my studies.
Dear Lord, please not another Harvard case!
Those Crazy Thai Just saw Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior. Dang! Note to self: Do not piss off any Thai people...they will kick your ass good.
Top Secret Although I keep telling myself to get good rest and not overexert my body as it heals, I seem to have a hard time doing it thanks to all the events that are going on. It's Sunday, and I'm exhausted. Last night, I went to -- well, I actually am not allowed to say what I did last night because it was extremely dorky. Some people at school think that their secret identities as non-dorks are secret (when in fact they are not), and they have sworn me to secrecy to protect their reputations. Personally, I think that once you've attained the level of dorkiness -- think the summit of Mt. Everest -- that they have, you're better off being loud and proud about it. Seriously, who do they think they're kidding? However, a promise is a promise. So I'll do my best to make last night's activities sound non-dorky. Last night involved hours of me, 15 men, and some hide-and-go-seek. Yep, that's what I said.
*an aside: potential new t-shirt design?
Pretty Fly for a Sick Guy (or Girl) So I've been sick for two whole weeks....I've never been sick for such an extended period of time. It sucks. Big time.
This past Tuesday and Wednesday, YJ and I were "volunteer leads" at the World Business Forum in Los Angeles. It was a pretty cool event. There were a bunch of speakers, some from academia, some from the business world, who came to speak. They included Jack Welch, Rudy Giuliani, Michael Porter, Jim Collins, etc. It was fun listening to Michael Porter just because we've been bombarded with his stuff since we started b-school. Jack Welch was really fun to listen to. He's very no-nonsense and has a good sense of humor, and it was interesting to see where the ideas of academics and businessmen merge and/or collide. One of the volunteers, A-Cash was responsible for assisting Jim Collins, one of the speakers. It turns out that Collins is being sponsored by Mercedes, so A-Cash got picked up in a Maybach! They had a Maybach on display in the concourse lobby right in front of the registration desk during the forum, so we would take turns sitting in it and wondering if we could somehow steal the keys and drive around the lobby in the car. The backseat consists of two reclining seats, both of which have video screens in front of them. The arm rest can accommodate champagne and wine or a tea service....it's not your typical vehicle. After all, it does start at $370,000 or something like that. We were all envious of A-Cash when we found out he'd get to ride in the car and insisted that he take photos.
Being a volunteer lead entailed sending out a lot of bossy emails and looking official behind the registration desk. When I was first offered the job, my first thought was, "OK...so who's been spreading around rumors that I'm organized?" But now that the job is over, I now see that the job suited me, since two of my core competencies are sending bossy emails and giving off the image that I know more than I really do. However, working the forum did nothing to improve my ailing condition, as all the volunteers can attest -- I was coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose the entire time, and I didn't start getting better until Thursday.
On Thursday night, I saw Ozomatli in concert at Spaceland in Silver Lake, which was really awesome! I wish I hadn't been sick, but their music and energy is just so amazing that it made me feel more energetic. It was a great show and all these rappers and DJs that have worked with them through the years performed. I felt like a dumbass not knowing where Spaceland was, since it turns out that I drove past it every working day for 5 years, but in my defense, the name is not posted anywhere clearly on the building and there is a sign that says "Dreams of L.A." above it...so I just assumed that that was the name of the venue.
Friday night was Casino Night, which is Marshall's equivalent of a yearly formal. We're all about to graduate, so it was nice getting dressed up and hanging out, just enjoying the music, the gambling, and the people watching (you see some pretty interesting things on the dance floor, mm-hmm). I lost all of my casino chips playing blackjack, but it was okay because whenever I ran out, I just took some of Mayne's. You can see the pictures for it here. You can also see a very short, poor-quality video that I shot with my digital camera by clicking here. If I do say so myself, I look pretty darn good for someone who's been coughing up her lungs for the past two weeks. This cough better go away soon.
