A Night to Remember, Fo-Shizzle Thanks to Dubya's kick-ass connections, I got to accompany her to the Jay-Z and Friends concert at Staples Center tonight. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! Soooo good. Jay-Z performed as well as a few other artists you might have heard of. You know, like Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Method Man and Red, Foxxy Brown, DMX, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell. Jamie Foxx stopped by too. I don't think they're too obscure, are they? Mary J. Blige was absolutely divine (the woman can SING) and Snoop Dogg performed "Drop It Like It's Hot," which I really, really like. The energy level of the crowd was so high; everyone was singing along to all the songs. Kobe Bryant was in the audience, and Macy Gray too. She was standing right next to me for a little while with her kids (I presume). It was an awesome night!
An Important Date Yesterday was Veteran's Day. It was also my uncle's birthday. It was also the anniversary of the day I came to the U.S. That's about it.
Take Cleaning to Another Level Holy crap. I just saw an ad for the "Robo-Maid." It's this ball that sits in this metal cradle that rolls around your floor and cleans it! It's wacky!
You Can Never Go Back Home Again My parents just told me that they managed to sell our house. I'm happy for them, because selling the house is what they wanted, but I'm also sad at the same time. After all, it was where I spent most of my adolescent years, and I had envisioned bringing my kids there to visit their grandparents, possibly even having a wedding there (mine or one of my siblings). You know, stuff like that. Oh well...it's just something to have to get used to.
On Friday, I went to the racetrack and watched horse racing for the very first time. It was cool. Of course, I was very good at picking the winners until I actually started betting. One of the Marshall professors took his sports business class to the track, and I was able to join them, sneak into a picture with the class at the winner's circle, and watch a bunch of MBA students humiliate themselves by racing against each other on bouncy balls on the turf while wearing silks. A highlight of my MBA career, indeed.
After the racing, I got to see my first Ozomatli performance ever. I'd heard bits and pieces of their stuff before, but I had never seen them live. They were performing outside the track. They are really awesome performers, and the general atmosphere among the crowd was lively and fun. It was one of the best live performances I'd watched, and it made for a night to remember.
On Saturday, I went to the Highlands for Sar's brother's birthday party. It's advertised as a "mega-club," but I think of it more as "mega-lame." The music was all right -- mostly hip hop, top 40s, some 80s stuff, all mainstream -- but the line to get in was ridiculously long, and the clientele was a really odd assortment of people. As I waited in line, I came to the conclusion that the majority of people there were either (1) tourists, (2) really old, as in as old as my grandmother, or (3) really skanky, as in "Excuse me, miss, but the street corner is down that-a-way." Blecch.
Bush won Yeah, I know.
