I Have Always Depended on the Kindness of Strangers Getting around Japan when you have no handy Japanese phrases besides "excuse me," "thank you," and "toilet?" is fun!!! I've been doing a lot of what I call "freestyle" sightseeing. It basically consists of me armed with nothing but a railway map and the name of a city. I walk around and ask strangers where to go and how to get there. It's pretty cool. I went to Hakone and Nara with my freestylin' ways most recently, and they are gorgeous, green places that remind me of the location of The Last Samurai (minus Tom Cruise, but I never liked him much anyway).
Jason and Fumio's wedding ceremony yesterday was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Fumio was absolutely stunning in her kimono, and Sar, Bill, and I were overwhelmed by the graciousness of Jason and Fumio's family. I will try to post pictures somewhere as soon as I get some time. The internet kiosk at the airport is about kick me off, so I gotta jam.
Reunion...And It Feels So Good I met up with Sar and Bill in Tokyo and we spent the day at Odaiba, which is an island with really cool modernistic buildings and the Toyota City Showcase. We got to see some awesome cars with amazing new technology, and we also rode a ferris wheel. Being scared of heights, it was a frightening experience, but the view of Tokyo Bay was absolutely amazing, so I'm glad I did it. Till the next time I can find access to the Internet...Over and out.
Enjoying Tokyo I went shopping with Chang and saw Jermaine Dupree at this store called BAPExclusive. Pretty cool. A couple of days later, some people went clubbing in Roppongi and bumped into the Jack and Kelly Osbourne. Unfortunately, TJ was not there to say "hi." Right now, I am extremely frustrated because I can't access my email, which is an extremely bad thing. I am in an internet cafe, and my keyboard is sticky. Knowing what sort of stuff guys like to do at the computer, I think I have to wash my hands now. Gross.
Wherever Chang Goes, Wackiness Follows Soooo tired. Got into Japan Saturday evening. On Sunday, we spent the day going to various temples and historical sites before heading back to the hotel to work on my project. We presented our recommendations to Sharp on Monday, and then went to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) to see Celestin present. After the presentation was over, we got to play in the park, which was fun. We rode their Spiderman ride, which was a ride that featured 3-D effect, and got sopping wet at Jurassic Park and Peppermint Patty's Stunt Slide (or something like that). We had to stand in front of the "butt heater" apparatus after our jeans got soaked.
Today, we visited Daikin, a air conditioning unit manufacturer. It was really cool because we got to visit their factory, which was amazing and got to hear an interesting presentation by Daikin about their corporate strategy, which kinda addressed some of the things we've been learning about in class. We then headed to Tokyo and went out together to Gonpachi, which is a place where people can drink and have little dishes, reminiscent of Spanish tapas. The food was good, and more importantly, the sake was good. Chang got pretty drunk and ended up puking on my foot after we finished watching a bunch of our classmates perform karaoke. Scary. I had to call a cab and enlist Aaron to help me get Chang home. Good times, good times.
You Heard Me. I'm Going to Japan Finals are over. All that's left is our PRIME trip!!! I'm heading to Japan to give a presentation to Sharp with suggestions on how they can enter the air purifier market in the US with their air purifiers featuring Plasmacluster technology. My team made sample print ads and even shot a sample TV ad. Yeah, I know. We're just that cool.
Lately, I've been so stressed with finals and projects (even this one) that I've been unable to feel at all excited about this trip. But as we near the home stretch, that excitement is finally here. My teammates have been talking about watching some sumo wrestling, and Chang-er and I are ready to make our Japanese karaoke debut. Yeah, Japan had better watch out, 'cause here we come!
Finals I'm pretty tired from Saturday's festivities, which included checking out Shimi's new pad and dancing at A.D. til the wee hours of the morning. In between stuff that I had to do on Sunday, I just napped. And still I'm tired. And now it's 3 in the morning on Monday, and I'm just getting started on studying for our leadership class. D'oh!
And They Call It Puppy Love Overheard on Art Laboe's Sunday Special on Hot 92 Jamz: "I love you a lot. And if you play on me, I'll pop you in the face." Awesome.
I Never Thought I Would Hear It on TV.. "In the case of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, please seek immediate medical attention." Dang.
